India – Lines, Everywhere (10 images & criss-cross patterns behind closed eyes)

The Rolling Serene

Lines. Everywhere in India, you find lines. Sit within it and it seems like the chaotic rush of a tidal wave, but should you be able to pull away enough, and look back upon it, there is an unspoken harmony that operates within borders; lines. An eternal pattern that people are born into and maintain. Attribute it to the caste system, the inherent class struggle, or a simple apathy towards change; but people are plotted carefully upon the axes of existence, and spend their lives seeking the line of best fit.  They know you’re a tourist not by the colour of your skin, or the clothes you wear, but like a cultural sobriety test, how you’re able to walk the line. And though you can learn words upon lines upon lines; you can’t learn the lines themselves.

(after severe repetition, the word line just lost all meaning to me)

  1. These are really interesting photographs. I especially liked the first one and the one of the foliage with the cross. Kerala and Goa?

    • Thanks la. Both of those are Goa actually. Other than “Grand Bandstanding” (the sunset on the beach), they’re all in Goa.
